CFML Developer now upgraded to CF9

ColdFusion , Default No Comments »

Great news, both the cfmldeveloper servers have now been upgraded to ColdFusion 9, so all of you using the developer hosting can now try out all the great new CF9 features.

What's new in ColdFusion 9

ColdFusion 9's list of new features is quite long, so I'll just mention a few items that I find most interesting. For a complete list of new features, go to Adobe's site.

CFDeveloper Reloaded

Default No Comments »

Welcome to the new site and new domain. So why are we replacing cfdeveloper.co.uk you may ask?

  • The old site has become tired and out of date and has not been updated in a long time.
  • It has become very hard to update and maintain as it uses a very old and unsupported portal application written in ASP.
  • We also felt that changing the name to CFMLDEVELOPER was appropriate seeing as there are now multiple CFML engines and not just CF (ColdFusion) which we will be supporting these on the developer hosting platform.

new upcoming features

New Hosting Platform

The developer hosting will be migrated to BlueThunder's new virtualisation platform and will also br moving from HELM control panel to DotNetPanel. Once we have done this then we will be adding support for the other CFML engines into DotNetPanel as currently this is not possible with HELM. This migration will then make the rest of the improvements possible.

Added support for new CFML engines.

Our developer hosting platform currently only supports Adobe ColdFusion, but we have been given the full support of Railo Technologies and will also be providing free Railo hosting. We may also be supporting Open BlueDragon, although this is as yet undecided. ColdFusion 9 is already supported on 1 server (cfdeveloper-cf2), however we have not yet been able to upgrade cfdeveloper-cf3.

More Database Support

MySQL 5 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 support will be added.

Better debugging

We will be providing optional RDS access, use of FusionDebug and the CFbuilder debugger.

Social Networking

For the new site I am testing one of the worlds most advanced community software apps (dolphin 7), which has lots of funky social networking tools like integration withYouTube, MySpace, Odeo, Flickr, Match and Facebook as well as video chat, blogs messenger and more. It is a PHP application as there is sadly nothing even remotely similar written in CFML, but one must use the best tool for the job, so if it impresses me enough this is what will be used on this site.
